I wanted to do this video after my last video featured one of these low carb wrap in the title shot. There are certainly good tasting low carb wraps, and wraps that IMO taste like cardboard. The latter ones do not make for an adequate replacement for things like buns or sandwiches. I have tried three different types of low carb tortillas — Flatout Flatbread (http://bit.ly/bSLFmS ), Mission Carb Balance, and La Tortilla Factory. I definitely have my favorite one, Flatout Light Italian Herb. ( http://bit.ly/bSLFmS )

Note: all three of these wraps are an OWL-phase food since they all contain whole wheat flour, a rung 9 food item in OWL. If you are in Induction, you better bet would be to make either the Flax bread recipe or the Revolution Rolls recipe, which I have posted on Youtube.

  1. @gemsa1987 I know I have bought bad products just because they said "Low Carb" on the label, and I wanted to prevent other from making the same mistake. I am glad you liked the video.

  2. @KiriaHCG I am glad I am not the only one. I am sure why someone would stick with the bland simply flour tortilla wraps with these on the market. Even their new artisan bread product looks interesting and only 10g for a whole serving.

  3. @mshealthfirst Thanks — sometimes I wonder how regional these product review videos are. I mean can someone in Canada, let alone Australia or Asia appreciate them. However with ~80% of my viewers are from North America, I try to pick products I think are at least available through Amazon or national chains to most of them.

That is a good hint about freezing them. Usually I end up making an enchilada dish that uses mine when I think they've been around long enough.

  4. @KiriaHCG Last night was the first time I noticed them at a more regional grocery store, so I don't know about Wal-mart. If you go to the Flatout Flatbread website, you can see some product information about them, but I have not tried them yet.

  5. @topnotchjanitor That is why these are just my opinion or based upon my tastes. The fiber grams are interesting, but to me only to the point they affect net carbs. Then again whatever I eat has to taste good no matter the net carbs.

If I buy them again (a great sale would have to be necessary) and change my mind, I'll be sure to post it again. Unfortunately, the first impression often determines future purchases especially with ready alternatives.

  6. @tsmoore2 From the video description:
"Note: all three of these wraps are an OWL-phase food since they all contain whole wheat flour, a rung 9 food item in OWL. If you are in Induction, you better bet would be to make either the Flax bread recipe or the Revolution Rolls recipe, which I have posted on Youtube."

So you'll have to wait until after Induction and through the most of the rungs of OWL.

  7. @HairloungeNmore Yes, significant number of my recipe videos in November will be based on Thanksgiving and what to make (side dishes, stuffing, and desserts). I may even try a Turkey video if I can edit 3-4 hours of work to an appropriate amount, but honestly most roast Turkey recipes are Atkins friendly. I am not sure I can improve on what America's Test Kitchen has already done on their site.

  8. you have to try "mama lupe's low carb wraps!" Ask ANYONE who has tried them!! They are the best on the market. And at only 3 net carbs, you can use them more frequently. Nutrition sells them online for about $3.50 for a pack of ten.

  9. I love using flatouts as pizza crusts, but I'm also pretty fond of the la tortilla factory ones for quesadillas –they pretty much taste like a whole wheat tortilla for me. Those Mama lupes ones are almost too good! I have to keep them in the freezer to not overdo it 🙂

  10. @ginastarke2 The pizza idea is really super easy, and makes for a great snack when you are too rushed for time to make any low carb crusts. I'll definitely have to try the Mama Lupes when I order from Netrition again.

  11. @pinkmushroom55 I typically recommend not discounting sugar alcohols from one's total carbs as many sugar alcohols (with exception of erythritol) do convert into glucose. I am also dubious of the inclusion of glycerin in the products, so I recommend against adding them in the first two weeks. After two weeks, then you can decide for yourself how much the affect your weight loss. The first two weeks should primarily be "real" food not commercial substitutes.
