If you guys follow along very much with the farmhouse shenanigans, you know that I am not much of a planner. Be it meals, blog content, projects, you name it..I’m pretty much always just taking one step at a time.

Several months ago..shoot, it may have even been a year ago..I shared a post about how I get healthy meals on the table without planning. As a follow-up to that, I did video where I showed what exactly we eat on this “plan”. It’s not a plan, but what the heck else do you call it? Anyway, you all seemed to love it for some reason.

So, now I’m back with the breakfast edition.

Now, I realize this video probably makes us look pretty boring, but I like simplicity. I don’t mind eating the same things over and over, while throwing in whatever is seasonally available (or on sale) here and there.

More often than not we eat some kind of kefir smoothie, and some kind of eggs. I may switch out the fruits or throw some veggies in the eggs, but that is the basis. It has protein, probiotics, carbohydrates, fats..pretty much everything to start your day on the right foot!

I found this recipe for sweet potato oatmeal bake several years ago, and it has kind of always stayed in the rotation. I like that the oatmeal is soaked overnight in kefir. This is a traditional method of preparation to neutralize phytic acid and make the oats more digestible. When my kids get sick of eggs and smoothies, this oatmeal bake is a welcome treat!

Saturdays are always sourdough pancake days. My father-in-law comes over because he says they are the best pancakes in the world. There really is nothing like sourdough.

  1. Hi Lisa. Love, love, love this video. So intrigued by how inventive and talented you are. When you were dishing up the plates, I recalled how you talked about getting those plates. When you were explaining about the meal prep in your kitchen, I remembered the video on how you bought the house and that process. So many wonderful videos and life lessons that you've given! Thank you for your time and topics. YOU ARE NEVER BORING! Do kinda miss seeing the baby in his wrap, though! ;(). Blessings and love!

  2. Love the simplicity!!! Also, the Kefir Grains that I purchased from you are making amazing Kefir for me and my Family!!! Thank You so much!!! Love that your Father-in-Law joins all of you for breakfast!!!!!!! XOXO from Eagle Rock, CA

  3. I’m watching it again! I love how simple it all is. I’m doing weight watchers and all of this works with that. 😊 Mornings are the hardest for me so thanks for sharing! I would love to see more food videos and maybe even a routine video if you’re up to it. Be blessed!!

  4. Love the simplicity. The perfect amount of variety, in my opinion. Lunch is by far our hardest meal of the day for coming up with what to eat. Would love if you did a video on what you do for lunches. Thanks!

  5. Not boring at all! I feel especially as a busy stay at home working mom that simple, nutritious meals like this are the easiest! We do our pancake breakfast on Sunday and always double the batch so that we can reheat pancakes during the week for my little boy. I’ve never had turkey eggs! I bet they are delicious! Mmm! Thanks for the recipes. I’m excited to try something new!

  6. Absolutely loved this, and what a great way to start the day.
Also loved that your breakfast meals didn't have to look 'instagram perfect'. Thank you for keeping it real : )

  7. (Gary's wife here) Lisa, you continue to be a breath of fresh air ! I love your simple approach to life and living !! I often feel overwhelmed with trying to keep up with current food trends, vegan, paleo, carbs, no carbs, juicing vast quantities of greens… I  often buy tons of produce and try to eat healthy but it generally just goes bad in the fridge because it just take TOO MUCH EFFORT to try and create  "pinterest" worthy meals. Thank you so much for  "BORING"  I LOVE IT !!!

  8. Hi Lisa! I love yur channel, it's awesome! 🍃 You most definitely have Living a Simplistic Family Lifestyle mastered, hands down! 😊 Love those Turkey Eggs, that's crazy-wild! Do they taste the same as Chix eggs? Anyhow, you have a most unique and very interesting channel. Love it! 💕 Have a great day.🌷 Fr: Nan in NoNJ.🌻

  9. Loved those mason jar "smoothie" cups with lids.  Too cute! Our children are all grown, and I sure miss cooking and baking with them.  Enjoy these years because time really does fly.  You have such a sweet family. =D

  10. Everything looked so yummy! I loved how simple it was. I feel like I get so caught up in meal planning and trying to make overly complicated things. Watching this and the video you made talking about meal planning has really encouraged me to reconsider my meals.I would love to see more videos like this!

  11. Love these videos! Looking for more ideas than the sugary stuff we always go to. You should do a cookbook 😉 and have food and your homade products you make. I would totally buy it! Don't know anything about keifer, interested to learn about it.
