  1. The best thing to do when going ultradistance is relying on your body fat and your ketones. I 'm not experienced in distances, but from energy cycles, you have to rely mostly on aerobic energy cycles that can use your fat for fuel. High carb foods are great for the race but you have to be able to turn into ketones fast. Meaning that you should probably do a ketgenic diet the 3 months before the training and the week before the race to slowly bring carbs back and the day of the race to ramp up your carbs.

When you do that you should take the most of 2 worlds. Glucose and ketones. Explosive power for a few minutes and fat for fuel for the next hours…

It's science. Your muscle glycogen gets depleted a lot during the first hour of exercise, and then you rely mostly on plasma free fatty acids and ketones…

So when starting the race you use your ATP's, then you produce more ATP's from the ATP-PCr cycle (creatine supplementation helps here) and then your aerobic(Krebs cycle) and lactic acid (Cori cycle) take over. While you trying to produce ATP with glucose byproducts (lactic acid) you should rely on fat!

meaning that ketosis is important to cycle weeks before your race
